As Valentines Day approaches we turn to flowers, chocolate, and extending gestures of love to those around us. It’s also an opportunity to show our home some love and improve our living space. A little work can go a long way in creating a relaxing home.
Plant a Rose Garden
A bouquet is nice, but they eventually end up in the garbage. If you plant a rose bush, you can enjoy them throughout the year! February happens to be within the appropriate time frame to plant roses. Call your local nursery for help getting started.
Install a Fireplace
Nothing is more cozy than a warm fire on a chilly day. If installing a traditional fireplace isn’t what you have in mind, there are several other options on the market. You can find several affordable electric models that are freestanding or wall mounts.
Deep Clean Your Home
Why wait for spring to enjoy a spotless home? Take the time to do it yourself or hire a cleaning service. Either way, you’ll be able relax in your newly cleaned space. If you run out of time to clean the whole house, maybe focus on something specific like organizing the garage, or scrubbing out the fridge. Sometimes the small thing make the biggest difference.
Add Smart Home Technology
This is a perfect way to make your home more efficient, lower your monthly bill, and minimize your carbon footprint. Whether it’s a smart thermostat or sprinkler system, chances are there is some kind of rebate available as well. Technology is always improving and it may surprise you how outdated your current technology is.
Update and Redecorate
Styles are always changing, even if it’s something as simple as buying some new throw pillows, it feels good to give your home a refresh. Take the time to scrape off the popcorn ceilings. Make sure to budget in a replacement for the dishwasher on its last leg. Tackle that “to do list” and enjoy your improvements sooner. Not only will this make your home feel like a better place, but will increase your “Return on Investment” if you decide to sell.
Home Safety
This is a perfect time to go through and check your safety systems such as fire and monoxide alarms. Maybe it’s time to add a home security system or update your current one. As previously mentioned, technology is always improving and your homes current safety measures may be falling short. It’s also a good time to test your home for radon, especially during the winter months when the doors and windows aren’t open as often, allowing for a more accurate assessment.
Whatever you decide to do just remember you can enjoy flowers, chocolates, AND some home improvements this holiday. You’ll never regret showing you’re home a little love. The time you put into your home will last much longer than February 14th. Drop by our office or check out our website for more information. Happy Valentines!
